PAPER,  FILTER,  ANALYTICAL

This  specification  was  approved  on  the  above  date  by  the  Commissioner,  Federal   Sup•

ply   Service,   G~neral  Services   Administration,     for   the   use   of   all   Federal   agencies.

1.  SCOPE  AND  CLASSIFICATION

1.1  Scope.-This   specificationcovers  only the  analytical  filter  papers  most  commonly used in  the  laboratories of the  Federal GovD ernment  and  does not  cover those  used  in relatively   small   amounts   such   as    fluted papers.

1.2 Types and  classes.-Filter    paper  covD ered by this  specificationshall be of the  folD lowing types and classes, as  specified:

Type !.-Qualitative.

Class 1.-For      coarse   and    gelatinous precipitates.

Class 2.-For    medium precipitates. Class 3.-For    fine precipitates.

Class 4.-For    fineprecipitates, hardened. Type IL-Quantitative.

Class 5.-For      coarse   and    gelatinous

precipitates.

Class 6.-For    medium precipitates. Class 7.-For    fine precipitates.

Class 8.-For    fine precipitates, thin.

1.3 Shape  and   sizes.-Unless     otherwise specified,the  filter paper  shall be  furnished in circlesof the followingdiameters, as speciD fied:

5.5,7, 9, 11, 12.5,15, or 18.5centimeters.

A tolerance of plus or minus 0.2  centimeters in  size will be permitted.

2.  APPLICABLE   SPECIFICATIONS

2.2  Specifications and   other   publications applicableonly to individualdepartments  are listed in section 7.

3.  REQUIREMENTS

3.1 Material.-The     filter   paper   shall   be composedof 100-percentfully bleachedfibers.

3.2 Apha-cellulose,   -    The  alpha-cellulose content shall be not  less than  95 percent.

3.3 Copper number.-The    copper number shall be not more than  0.5.
