COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BURNER, GAS, LABORATORY
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Military Specification MIL-B-37410.
This Commercial Item Description covers one type of laboratory gas burner which is suitable as a portable gas heating source for laboratory use.
Salient Characteristics.
The laboratory gas burner assembly shall consist of a valve assembly, jet tube, baffle, air adjustment ring, burner insert and burner tube, see Figure 1. The burner assembly shall be constructed of corrosion resisting metal parts. The valve assembly shall be fitted with a manual adjustment to turn on or cut off the fuel supply and shall have an internal thread at its distal end suitable for coupling to the cartridge which is liquefied “LP” petroleum fuel. The thread shall be 7/16 inch, 27 National Standard, internal. The fuel supply low shall be substantially constant for any on position of the manual valve adjustment and limit the maximum attainable length of the blue flame range only. All adjustments shall be made with ease and without any exceptional effort. The gas burner assembly shall not leak at the threaded end when the valve adjustment is in any position.
Each valve shall have the manufacturer’s name or registered trademark. All markings shall be permanent and legible. Valve assemblies shall have none of the following which are considered defects:
Missing and/or non-uniform components
Cross threading
Non-uniform finish and/or corrosion
Poor/no manual valve adjustment control and/or leaking assembly.
