The guard bowl shall provide a chamber for the detachable head, and tubes that are inserted for horizontal centrifuging. The top view of the guard bowl shall be circular, and the outer diameter shall not exceed 15-1/2 inches. The interior of the bowl shall be finished with a durable baked-on enamel. The cover shall be hinged to the bowl. The center of the cover shall have a cutout (hole) which allows for safe use of a speed counter device (which is not required to be supplied).
The motor shall be a universal speed type that operates on 115 volt 50/60 Hz, AC supply lines. The head shall be capable of being secured to the motor shaft for a motor shaft adapter.
The speed control device shall be an autotransformer or rheostat which provides for six or seven steps of speed variation. The speed selection or variation shall be through use of an accessible selector knob or handle control that includes an “off” position.
The overall height of the centrifuge with close cover shall not exceed 13 inches.
The line cord shall be a three-wire electrical cord that terminates with a non-detachable 3-blade male plug that is suitable for use with receptacles specified in American National Standards Institute (ANSI) C73-11 (Dimensions of Plugs and Receptacles) – General Purpose, 125 Volts, 15 Amperes, 2-Pole, 3 Wire, Grounding Type). The exposed length of the line shall be not less than five feet.
Workmanship. The centrifuge shall be free from defects which detract from their appearance or impair their serviceability.
Unit. Each (EA). One centrifuge, as specified, constitutes one unit.
Quality Assurance Provisions.
Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contact or purchase order, the contractor may use his own or any facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements.
