COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SHAKING MACHINE, LABORATORY
This commercial item description shall be used in preference to Military Specification MIL-S-36971A.
This commercial item description covers a vibrator or rocking motion type laboratory shaking machine for producing homogeneous mixtures of blood cells in two standard red or white corpuscle blood diluting pipets.
Salient characteristics.
Shall be a small compact vibrator or rocking motion type laboratory shaking machine that accepts two red or white corpuscle blood diluting pipets conforming to ASTM E 788 (Pipet, Blood Diluting).
Shall be capable of producing a homogeneous mixture of blood cells in the pipets for purposes of providing uniform blood counts.
Shall be operable on 115 volt, 60 Hz, AC supply lines.
The mechanism for the vibrator or rocking motion shall be contained in a suitable metal or plastic housing. Four rubber suction feet shall be attached to the bottom of the housing, to prevent the electrically operated shaking mechanism from sliding or tipping.
The vibrator type shaking machine shall have a pipet cradle. The pipet cradle shall be mounted on a rigid support that extends above the vibrator assembly within the housing. The shaking action of the pipet shall be a combination of rotation about the long axis of the pipet, movement in both directions along the long axis, motion at right angles to the long axis, and tilting of the long axis.
The rocking motion type shaking machine shall have metal spring clips for grippiny the pipets. The electrically operated shaking machine shall impart a rocking motion to pipets that are gripped by the spring clips.
The construction of the metal spring clips and pipet cradle shall be such as to preclude damage or breaking as a result of insertion, shaking or removal of blood diluting pipets.
Electric controls shall be provided with the shaking machine and shall include an on-off switch and an adjustable intensity control for the vibration or rocking motion. A three conductor power cord shall be provided that has an overall exposed length of at least 5 feet and terminates with a three prong male connector that fits receptacles described in the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) Standard C73.11.
