COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BAG, RODENT (PLASTIC, ENTOMOLOGICAL SPECIMENS)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description in preference to MIL-B-43255.
This description covers bags to used as a container for rodents, rodent parasites and other entomological specimens in field preventive medicine.
Salient characteristics:
The bags shall be manufactured of polyethylene tubing meeting the physical characteristics listed in table I. The material thickness shall be 0.002 inches minus 10 percent, plus unlimited.

1/ A one inch wide specimen shall be used.
The issue of the ASTM standards in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with these requirements.
The heat sealed seam shall be 1/8 to 1/4 inch in width. The excess film between the bottom edge of the tubing and the bottom edge of the heat seal shall not exceed 3/8 inch.
Size 1 bags shall be 12 inches long and 6 inches wide. Size 2 bags shall be 16 inches long and 12 inches wide. A tolerance of + 1/4 inch is allowed.
The bags shall show no evidence of leakage when tested as follows. The bag shall be filled to 2 inches above the bottom seam with water containing sufficient dye to produce to produce a distinct color. The bags shall be suspended for 1 hour at room temperature and then visually examined for leakage.
Workmanship. The bags shall be clean, and shall be free from any crack, cut, tear, crease, wrinkle, hole (including pinhole), or extraneous matter which might impair their usefulness. All sealed edges shall be uniform in width and all peripheral edges shall be neatly and cleanly cut.
