COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
RACK, TEST TUBE, LABORATORY
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Military Specification MIL-R-36922 (DSA-DM).
This commercial item description covers a twenty tube Wasserman metal test tube rack suitable for use with water baths.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be a twenty tube Wasserman test tube rack with 5/8 inch-0 = 1/64 diameter holes for use with water baths.
Shall be fabricated from, as a minimum, 0.025 inch thick No. 24 United States Standard (USS) gauge corrosion-resisting steel. Commercial tolerances on the thickness shall apply.
Shall be free from rocking and wobbling when resisting on a flat surface.
Shall consist of two perforated flanged shelves, an unperforated flanged base, and two flanged supporting ends with cutouts for lifting and drainage. The flanged ends of the base and shelves shall be fitted inside the flanged supporting ends, and affixed by welding (e.g. spot welding).
The perforated shelves shall have two rows of ten holes that are uniformly spaced, and numbered in pairs from 1 to 10 lengthwise. The center lines of corresponding holes in the two shelves shall be in proper register to assure that the inserted tubes rest vertically in the rack.
The overall dimensions shall not exceed 10-1/8 long by 2-1/8 wide by 4-1/2 high (inches). The top shelf surface shall be at least 2-1/4 inches above the bottom level of the end supports, and the middle shelf surface shall be at least 1.0 inch below the top shelf surface.
Workmanship. The test tube rack shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Each (EA). One test tube rack, as specified, constitutes one unit.
Contractor certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and conforms to the producers’ own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
