COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
WATER BATH, ELECTRIC
This commercial item description shall be used in preference to Military Specification MIL-W-37060.
This commercial item description covers one type of constant temperature serological water bath, suitable for use in laboratory procedures.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be a constant temperature water bath, suitable for use in serological procedures. Shall be of double wall construction with inner walls (tank) of welded or single piece, seamless construction, fabricated of suitable corrosion resisting metal. The maximum dimensions of the outside of the housing without projections (e.g. feet, electric controls) shall be 16 wide by 8-1/4 deep by 8 high (inches). the inside (water chamber) shall have minimum dimensions of 11-5/8 wide by 5-7/8 deep X 5 high (inches).
Shall be furnished with a transparent plastic or stainless steel gable cover, thermometer, thermometer holder, temperature controller and back-up safety temperature controller. The temperature controller shall be capable of maintaining water bath at any temperature within the range of the bath to an accuracy ± 0.50C. Thermometer shall be a commercial grade mercury in glass type that includes a range of 350 – 1100 Centigrade. Thermometer shall be approximately 11 inches long and shall have a diameter of approximately 1/4 inch. Graduated increments of thermometer shall be 10 Centigrade with accuracy of 1 percent at center scale and 2 percent at the ends of the scale. Thermometer shall meet National Bureau of Standards (NBS) NBS Monograph 150-Liquid In Glass Thermometry.
Bath shall operate on 115 volt, 50/60 Hertz, alternating current and comply with requirements of Underwriters’ Laboratories, Inc. (UL) – UL 1262 Standard for Laboratory Equipment or UL 499 Standard for electric heating appliances.
