FILLER, PIPET (Rubber)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Federal Specification NNN-F-1486.
This commercial item description covers one type of laboratory rubber pipet filler, suitable for use with pipets in the transfer of corrosive, toxic, infectious or odorous liquids.
Salient characteristics:
The pipet filler shall be in accordance with Figure 1 and shall consist of a hollow spherical bulb, three ball valves and a pipet receptacle. The valves shall operate independently and shall be capable of accurately controlling the inflow of liquids into the pipet, holding the desired level, and of accurately controlling the discharge.
The bulb and pipet receptacle of the filler shall be made of a rubber compound containing a minimum of 50 percent elatomer. The elastomer shall comprise a minimum of 99 percent pure natural rubber.
The pipet shall filler shall be 4-3/4 inches high with a bulb diameter of 2-5/32 inches. The throat of the pipet filler shall fit snugly on pipets with upper end diameters of 0.092 through 0.30 inches. Letters shall be legibly molded into both sides of the rubber encasing each valve. Letter “E” shall be indicated at the valve between the throat and atmosphere, letter “S” at the valve between the throat and the bulb and letter “A” at the valve between the bulb atmosphere.
The ball valves shall be made of polished pure mineral agate or polished corrosion resistant steel, AISI 300 or 400 series. The ball valves shall show no evidence of leakage after pressure stabilization (initial surge) when subjected to 20 pounds per square inch gage. Leakage shall be determined using an air flow meter having graduations of 0.01 cubic foot per hour.
The pipet filler shall be black and shall be legibly and permanently marked with the name or registered trademark of the manufacturer.
