The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Federal Specification NNN-F-240.
This commercial item description covers a type of boiling flask used in laboratory procedures.
Salient characteristics:
The boiling flak shall be fabricated from borosilicate glass in conformance with Type I, class A of ASTM-E-438. Shall be one piece construction having a long neck with a tolled or beaded mouth perpendicular to a rounded body with a flat bottom. Shall have a nominal capacity of 1000 milliliters. Flasks shall be uniform, symmetrical and shall have none of the following which will be considered defects.
Cracks
Scratches
Discoloration or distortion
Dirt or grease
Seams
Internal foreign matter not easily removed using normal laboratory procedures.
The flasks shall be marked permanently and legibly with the manufacturer’s name or registered trademark, approximate capacity and with a roughened or matte area suitable for laboratory marking.
Workmanship. The flask shall be free from defects which detract its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Each (EA). One flask, as specified, constitutes one unit.
Quality Assurance Provisions.
Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein.
