BOTTLE, WEIGHTED
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a weighted bottle assembly for collecting representative samples of light lubricating oils, kerosenes, gasolines, transparent gas oils, diesel fuel and distillates at selected level within large tanks or other containers for the determination of physical and chemical characteristics.
Salient characteristics:
The weighted bottle assembly shall include a bottle with a suitable stopper closure and weighted holder for the bottle.
The bottle shall be a 32 ounce (1qt.) capacity French square type with a minimum 1-5/8 inch diameter opening at the mouth end.
The stopper closure shall be a good quality smooth cork, free of pits and cracks, which shall make a liquid tight fit into the bottle opening, and shall be captive to the bottle. Provision shall be made for attaching a chain or line to the stopper to enable removal from the bottle when assembly is submerged to test level. As an alternative a petroleum resistant, synthetic rubber stopper may be used.
The weighted holder shall be a lead box or other suitable metal container that shall hold the bottle securely in place and provide sufficient weight to submerge the assembly in the liquid to be tested. The holder shall be provided with means to attach a chain or line for lowering and raising the assembly during test.
Workmanship. The weighted bottle shall be free from defects which detract from their appearance or impair their serviceability.
Unit. Each (EA). One weighted bottle assembly, as specified, constitutes one unit.
Contractor certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and conforms to the producers’ own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered materials. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered material in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practical.
