COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BEAD, GLASS, LABORATORY, (Plastic Spectacle Frame Warmer)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description to replace Military specification MIL-B-36282 (DM) which will be cancelled.
This commercial item description covers one type of laboratory glass beads, graded for use as a warming media in an electric warmer for plastic spectacle frames.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be graded glass beads suitable for use as a warming media in Warmer, Plastic Spectacle Frame. (See notes)
The beads shall be made of barium crown glass, suitable in all respects for the purpose intended.
The glass beads shall be round, with a nominal diameter of 0.021 inch. Ninety percent (by weight) of the beads shall pass through a No. 25 sieve (0.0278 inch) and be retained by a No. 40 sieve (0.0165 inch) when tested in accordance with ASTM Designation E11. Sieves used for analysis shall be in accordance with ASTMN Designation D1214.
Reference specification. Where ASTM Designations are referenced herein, the issue of that Designation in effect on the date of solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with the stated requirements.
Workmanship. The glass beads shall be free from defects which detract from their appearance or impair serviceability.
Unit. Package (PG). One package containing 5 pounds of glass beads, as specified, constitutes one unit.
