COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BEAD, LABORATORY
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to military specification MIL-B-003473A (DSA-DM).
This Commercial Item Description covers a round, solid borosilicate glass bead for use in laboratory procedures.
Salient characteristics.
Shall be a round solid glass bead suitable for use in laboratory applications such as packing for distillation columns, mixing beads, and boiling stones.
Shall have a diameter of 5.0 millimeters (mm) with an allowable tolerance of + 1.3 mm and -1.0 mm.
Shall be fabricated of borosilicate glass conforming to Type I, Class A of ASTM E-438 (Standard Specification for Glasses in Laboratory Apparatus), except a maximum 1.0 percent trace consistent of K2O (Potassium Oxide) shall be acceptable.
Workmanship. The laboratory glass bead shall be free from significant visual defects which detract from its appearance or defects impairing its serviceability.
Unit. Package (PG). One package containing one pound of beads, as specified, constitutes one unit.
