COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
MAILING CASE, LABORATORY SPECIMEN
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a screw capped mailing case to be used in conjunction with NSN 6640-01-099-4066, Serum Tube, Shipping and Storing, and NSN 7690-00-082-9705, Label, Etiologic Agents-Biomedical Material.
Salient characteristics:
The mailing case shall be a screw capped, fiberboard mailing container suitable for shipping serum vials through the U.S. Postal System.
The screw cap shall be SC Safety Edge conforming to Post Office Standard, Chapter 4, Section 433.2.
The case shall be waxed inside and have a crimped metal neck and seamed metal bottom. Nominal case dimensions shall be 3-1/8 inches inner diameter by 7-3/4 inches inner height.
The minimum wall thickness shall be 0.115 inches including a covering of 0.0045 Kraft.
The cap and case shall meet Federal standards for mailing liquids when absorbent packing is added.
Workmanship. The mailing case shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Package (PG). One package containing twelve cases with caps, as specified, constitutes one unit.
Quality Assurance Provisions.
Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contact or purchase order, the contractor may use his own or any facilities suitable for the
