TEST TUBE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers one type of 12 x 75 millimeter sterile polystyrene culture test tube with a two position plastic cap for aerobic and anaerobic cultures.
Salient characteristics.
Test tube shall be a clear sterile polystyrene culture tube, 12 x 75 millimeters with a two position plastic cap; one position loose for aerobic culture, and the other all the way down and air tight for anaerobic culture.
In the aerobic culture position, there shall be sufficient friction between the closure cap and the outside wall of the culture tube so that the culture tube does not fall off when the culture tube is inverted, or does not slip into the anaerobic position when the culture tube is held in the upright position. In the anaerobic culture position, an inverted culture tube that is filled with water shall withstand a vacuum environment of 10 psi gauge for 5 minutes without evidence of leakage. (See Quality Assurance Provisions for testing requirements).
The culture tube shall have an overall length of 74 to 76 millimeters, and a maximum diameter at the center of the tube of 12.5 millimeters. The culture tube shall have a nominal capacity of 6 millimeters. The culture tube shall have a nominal capacity of 6 millimeters.
Workmanship. The culture tube shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Package (PG). One package containing eight polyethylene sealed bags, each bag containing 125 tubes, as specified, constitutes one unit.
