COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CENTRIFUGE, LABORATORY (Small)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Military Specification MIL-C-37040 which was cancelled.
This commercial item description covers a table model centrifuge with a six or eight place fixed angle or horizontal head for 15 milliliter tubes, suitable for use in military medical laboratories having limited space and where the character of work does not require centrifuging large volumes.
Salient characteristics.
Shall be a table model centrifuge suitable for small volume centrifuging on 115 volt, 50/60 Hz, AC supply lines in military facilities having limited space.
Shall consist of a stainless steel or aluminum base, guard bowl and hinged cover, universal type motor, speed control device, and line word.
Shall be supplied with a detachable six (6) or eight (8) place fixed angle or horizontal head for 15 millimeter (ml) tubes and a 15 ml plastic shield or corrosion-resisting steel shield with rubber cushion for each trunnion ring or fixed angle position.
Shall be capable of producing a relative centrifugal force (RCF) of not less than 1470 gravities and not more than 2000 gravities. The RCF shall be tested with 15 ml tubes fully loaded to capacity and measured at the tips of the tubes with the speed control setting at maximum.
The base shall support the guard bowl, and shall house the motor and speed control device. The bottom of the base shall be provided with flexible rubber feet for cushioning and stability.
