COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
TUBE, CENTRIFUGE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Military Specification MIL-T-36886A.
This commercial item descriptuion covers a non-sterile, disposable, plastic centrifuge tube suitable for use in laboratory procedures that include centrifuging.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be a non-sterile, graduated, disposable, 50 milliliter (mm) capacity conical bottom centrifuge tube with screw cap closure.
Shall be suitable for use in laboratory procedures that include centrifuging. Shall be able to withstand a relative centrifugal force (RCF) OF 5800 g. The tube shall not break when used in a centrifuge (e.g., Damon/IEC Model DPR 6000) operating at full speed.
The tube shall be fabricated of translucent polypropylene. The screw cap shall be fabricated of polyethylene or polypropylene.
The tube shall have nominal dimensions of 30 millimeter (mm) outside diameter X 115 mm long. The configuration of the tube shall be suitable for centrifuging by insertion in a 50 ml sealed dome shield (e.g., Damon/IEC Cat. No. 324, or equal) having a 29.5 mm inside diameter X 101 mm length, and includes an insert with a conical concavity and a top and a top mounted screw-on dome cap.
The tube shall include volumetric markings that are permanent and legible. The graduation markings shall include 2.5 ml increments from 10 to 50 ml.
