COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BURET, LABORATORY, (Straight, Automatic 50 ml)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Federal Specification NNN-B-789.
This commercial item description covers one type of automatic straight buret for general laboratory procedures.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be fabricated glass in conformance with Type I, Class A of ASTM E-438, and shall be suitable for laboratory procedures. Shall be volumetric automatic type buret fitted with a leakproof, three way stopcock and delivery tip. Construction of the buret shall be uniform about the axis of the centerline. The plug shall be fabricated of either glass or TFE fluorocarbon. The glass plus shall conform to ASTM E-675 and TFE fluorocarbon plugs shall conform to ASTM E-911. The plug shall have 2 holes and retaining device so that the graduated tube may be connected with either the filling tube or the delivery stem by rotating the plug 180o. The delivery stem shall be approximately 60 mm in length. Shall have an overflow cup attached to the top of the buret with minimal change in the inner diameter of the buret at the point of attachment.
Shall have a nominal capacity of 50 ml and graduations in 0.1 ml intervals. Shall have a nominal length of 55 cm. Main graduations shall be marked in Arabic numerals directly above the referenced graduation line. Shall be calibrated to deliver at 20oC and so marked on the buret. Each buret shall have the manufacturer’s name or registered trademark. All markings shall be permanent and legible.
Burets shall have one of the following which are considered defects.
Cracks or chips
Improper marking (or omitted)
Discoloration or distortion
Cloudiness
Missing components
Dirt or grease not easily washed off in normal procedures
Foreign material not easily removed.
Workmanship. The buret shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
