COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BURNER, GAS, LABORATORY, (Bunsen, Automatic)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Military Specification MIL-B-36274A.
This commercial item description covers an automatic Bunsen burner, adjustable for use with manufactured, natural, mixed (natural and manufactured) gas, or bottled liquid petroleum gas such as propane, butane, suitable for use in a dental laboratory.
Salient characteristics:
The burner shall be constructed with independently control pilot and main flames, and shall be adjustable for use with manufactured, natural, mixed (manufactured and natural) gas, or bottled liquid petroleum gas such as propane or butane. The burner shall consist of the following:
Base housing
Valve actuating housing
“ON-OFF” platform
Detachable burner
Draft guard
Detachable nozzle for each gas
Waxing cup
The pilot frame shall burn continuously and shall be adjustable by means of a pilot needle valve.
The main flame shall normally off, and shall ignite only when the spring valve mechanism is activated by pressure on the “ON-OFF” platform removed. The main flame shall be instantly off when pressure on the “ON-OFF” platform removed. A continuous flame shall be obtained by depressing and slightly rotating the “ON-OFF” platform in either direction, and shall be instantly off when the platform is returned to released position.
The base housing shall be “D” shaped and shall contain a needle valve with an exterior nozzle orifice at one end and a knob at the other end for regulating the main flame. Gas input to the housing shall be through a serrated inlet connecting which shall accommodate ¼ to 5/16 inch inside diameter tubing. The base housing shall also contain a removable metal spring valve mechanism, which when closed shall prevent the flow of gas to the main flame needle valve.
